World of Warcraft Item Upgrades The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats. Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount. Item Level The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly dependent on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded. The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and is visible on all item tooltips. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet. When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a good indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it's able to deal. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level. On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat. There are several theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory says that the item level is calculated using a formula that calculates how valuable an item's stats really are. It considers the fact that different perks have different values, and also that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item. This isn't the only factor that influences the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may alter its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances. Item Stats The stats of an item are a major part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being “the most effective.” The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then increased by the player's skill. Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices. Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. item upgrade could do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item. Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options. Players can upgrade an item to specific stats or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss. Another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains. In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Armor, shields, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140. Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't be greater than 100%.. The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%. Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
